Censorship of the documentary “Palestine, a Denied Land” by UNED administration

A group of professors from UNED, Spain’s largest public university, in collaboration with its audiovisual department (UNED Media), has produced a documentary on the history of Palestine and the main factors behind the events of October 7, 2023. The documentary is entitled “Palestine, a Denied Land” (“Palestina, una tierra negada”) and compiles archival footage and interviews with a dozen Spanish, Palestinian, and Israeli anti-Zionist experts. In March 2024, once the documentary was completed, UNED’s administration refused to authorize its use, its broadcast on the public television network RTVE, or its distribution to third parties. This position, which was never explicitly explained, was based on a critique of the documentary’s bias, voiced by a professor who had not participated in its production. UNED possesses several documentaries presenting a Zionist perspective, the result of work by other professors. Neither pressure from the University Network for Palestine (RUxP) nor government intervention led UNED to lift the censorship.
