SAMT's work is based on establishing a data collection and organization system aimed at documenting situations while limiting the risks associated with their exposure.
Cases are collected and formalized in a way that allows them to be compared, paying particular attention to legal constraints, individual situations, and the risks of identifying individuals who wish to remain anonymous. This formalization aims to produce usable descriptions without imposing an immediate interpretation.
The collected data does not fall under a single visibility regime. A distinction is made between data that can be made public, data with restricted circulation, and data that is kept without distribution. This principle conditions the entire system.
The work also consists of organizing the cases in a way that allows them to be serialized. This organization makes it possible to identify regularities, recurring configurations, and continuities that are not perceptible at the scale of isolated cases.
Collection and Sources
The collection relies on several sources:
- Monitoring of media spaces.
- Direct transmissions from individual contacts or organizations (notably associations and student groups).
- A collection system via our secure form.
Data Protection and GDPR
The protection of personal data and sources is a major concern. The data is subject to anonymization procedures aimed at preventing any direct or indirect identification. Sources are not made public without explicit consent.
Data processing is, of course, carried out in compliance with the applicable regulatory framework, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data can be submitted in French or English and is organized in a way that allows it to be filtered and analyzed according to different criteria, notably geographical or institutional.
A significant portion of the collected testimonies is kept without publication.
Note: The guiding principle of SAMT's system can be formulated as follows: documenting situations without producing visibility that could increase their risks.
Our goal is to build a database that gradually self-sustains, and then make it available to NGOs, associations, and universities wishing to use it for advocacy, analysis, or as raw material that is directly mobilizable and immediately visible.
