Request to alter the title and threat to remove a roundtable on Palestine at Campus Condorcet

The Universitaires avec Gaza (UAG) collective denounced restrictions imposed on a workshop dedicated to Palestine as part of the "Week of Hospitality and Academic Freedom", held at the Condorcet Campus on June 22, 2026. Invited to present their report Surviving Genocide in Gaza, Coming to France: Obstacles Facing Palestinian Students and Researchers as well as their work on academic mobilizations related to Gaza, the speakers stated that Campus Condorcet had asked them to replace the term “genocide” with “violence” in the title of their roundtable discussion, or to agree to have it removed from the event’s official program.

In its statement, the collective asserts that “this matter is not only about the organization of a roundtable. It constitutes yet another manifestation of the epistemic injustice afflicting Palestinian scholarship in French and European universities.” In support of Palestinian researcher Omar Alsoumi and the other affected scholars, the collective also quotes Alsoumi, who writes in Child of Palestine that Palestinians “are tolerated as objects of study or as victims, but as soon as they themselves produce critical analyses of their own condition, their voices suddenly become problematic.”
